Child Care Learning Centers

Child Care Learning Center staff are required to obtain 10 hours of training relating to the care of children on an annual basis.

Health & Safety Orientation and CPR & First aid Training Requirements

Training Requirements

First Year
First year training begins at the staff’s hire date and ends at the first year anniversary of employment.
 
All caregiver staff are required to obtain a minimum of ten (10) clock hours of training during their first year of employment. At least six (6) of those hours should be obtained in the following topics:
All caregiver staff hired before October 1, 2019, are required to obtain a minimum of ten (10) clock hours of training during their first year of employment. At least six (6) of those hours should be obtained in the following topics:
  • Four (4) clock hours of training in any of the following topics: disease control, cleanliness, basic hygiene, illness detection, illness disposition, and childhood injury control.
  • Two (2) clock hours of training in identifying, reporting, and meeting the needs of abused, neglected, or deprived children
During the first year of employment, the CCLC Director and the person primarily responsible for food preparation are required to obtain a minimum of four (4) clock hours of training in food nutrition planning, preparation, serving, proper dish washing, and food storage. 
Transportation Training (CCLC only):
  • The Director and all persons involved in transporting children must complete training prior to transporting children.
  • Must be renewed every two (2) years from the date of completion.

Continued Training Requirements

Annual/Cont.  Training
Training begins the January after the first-year anniversary of employment and ends in December of that calendar year.
After the first year of employment, ten (10) hours of ongoing/annual training is required to be obtained by all CCLC and FCCLH staff, year after year (January through December), during their employment with the child care program.
  • Ongoing/annual training completed between January and December of 2019 would be evaluated at the licensing study in 2020.
Training topics should cover information regarding child development, early childhood education, or related topics and should assist caregivers with job performance and job-related skills.
Staff should be encouraged to obtain a variety of annual training year after year, and not retake the same types of trainings over and over again. Suggestions for training topics can be found in Rule 591-1-1-.33(5) for CCLC and 290-2-3-.07(9) for FCCLH
